Students and staff will notice some BIG changes in classrooms this year in the DLSEC RISE and GOALS programs. Thanks to generous financial support from the Dickson-Allen Foundation, we were able to purchase brand new :
- student desks that can easily be positioned for large group, small group, or independent work
- student tables that can be raised or lowered to meet diverse student needs (i.e., standing, seated in a wheelchair, seated in flexible seating)
- flexible seating options of all kinds including wiggle stools, ball chairs, bouncing chairs, floor seats, adjustable stools and more traditional chairs on wheels that lock for stability or unlock for transitioning
- creative shelving and storage options to organize hands-on learning materials for easy access by students and staff
- instructional support and sensory items including a color changing table and magnetic write and wipe boards
The new furniture was specially selected for the students we serve in each classroom and will allow our students to more easily and fully engage in learning opportunities and make progress toward their educational goals.
Through our purchase, we were able to support two local businesses (DeWitt-Poth & Son and South Texas School Furniture) who delivered and assembled all of the new furnishings.
Due to supply, production, and delivery delays from the manufacturers, some of our ordered items have not arrived yet, but we are hoping everything will be here and ready to go before the start of school on August 16, 2023. We look forward to being able to share pictures of all of these new items in use by our students and staff!
Over the summer, two DLSEC multi-district classrooms also received beautiful new commercial-grade vinyl flooring to replace the carpet. This will make it much easier for our staff to manage clean up. We partnered with El Campo Carpet One for the installation of the new flooring.
Parents and students are invited to come and see the changes during our Back-to-School Night on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.
